Summer Swans

I am not sure how I feel about this painting.  Sometimes I find the abstract shapes in the water to be interesting.  Other times it seems too busy. However, it is what it is.  I painted this while in transit from my move from Guam to Baton Rouge, this summer.  While staying with my mother in law in Michigan, we saw these beautiful swans on the lake in Fruitport, Michigan.  There were several babies on the lake, during the previous week.  But when I went down to snap a few photos, I found only one little cygnet left, making up this family trio.

The Perfect Tree

I painted this from a series of photos I took 4 years ago.  My husband, my son and I went out looking for the perfect Christmas tree.  This was the largest tree I have ever had, reaching eight feet.  I think this image will make a nice family Christmas card this year.

This was a commissioned piece.  It was a gift given to a family leaving Guam.  Hopefully it offers fond memories of their stay on the island.
There is always so much I learn with each painting that I do.  It was Renoir who said as he put down his brush on the last day he painted, "I believe I have learned something today."   I hope these discoveries, for me, will continue through all my painting years to come.

SOLD "Under the Palms at Asan Beach"

This painting was sold today. It was a fun one to do paint because it is such a lovely view of Two Lovers Point through the Palms Trees at Asan Beach. Thanks Brandi :-) I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed painting it.

Sunset from the Sheraton

This painting was a fun exercise in painting a sunset. I would like to thank my friend Nahono for letting me use her photo reference. She took a photo of this view from The Sheraton Hotel on Guam.
I haven't painted many sunsets so this was a good exercise for me.

Splash

Guam is surrounded by protective barrier and fringing reefs. This usually creates calm waters along the shore. However, during the winter months Guam can see large waves in certain areas. These waves were spotted along Cabras Island along Piti Bay.

Under a Red Striped Umbrella

This is part of what I saw during my afternoon at Ritidian Beach on Guam. This is one of the beautiful beaches on Guam as it is known for its soft sugar sand and turquoise crystal clear water. These children were playing in the sand under their red striped umbrella.

Proa Setting Sail

This painting renders a distant view of Two Lover's Point from the shore, as these local Guam sailors set sail on their Proa.

Talafofo Falls

This waterfall is one of the many beautiful waterfalls found on Guam. There is a trolley car on a zip line to take you there. It also has two suspension bridges to cross as you tour the falls. This painting shows my husband, son and daughter admiring the falls.

University of Guam Magazine, Spring 2011

I am pleased to post the spring 2011 issue of the University of Guam magazine. They have chosen an image of my "Inarajan Bay" painting for the magazine cover. This painting was displayed in the Creative Hands Pacific 2010 Exhibit at the Isla Center for the Arts from Nov. 18, 2010 through January. 14, 2011. I am very thrilled and excited as this is my first time to be on a magazine cover!! The original painting has found a home with Mr. Dan and his wife in California. Thanks Dan!

Two Lovers Sunset

This painting shows another view of Guam's famous Two Lovers Point, at sunset. The outrigger canoe club can commonly be seen during this time of day, practicing for races. This painting was another commissioned piece done for Dan Bellomo, courtesy his photo. I hope these paintings serve as great momentos of his time served on Guam. I wish him well with his next tour of duty.

Two Lovers Point no.2

This painting can be seen on my easel in the previous photo from Chamorro Village. I started this painting while selling paintings from my space at the Wednesday night market
This is a view of the famous Two Lovers Point from Ypao Beach. This is the site of an ancient Chamorro legend. It tells of two lovers that were forbidden to be together in life. They chose to leap together from the cliffside, to their deaths, so they could be tegether for all eternity.

This image is from the rocky area along the northern end of Gun Beach (Guam) near the gun. I was there for the afternoon to swim with my family. The dark clouds rolled in quickly bringing rain. The rain was warm so we continued to swim, having just as much fun.

Outrigger Canoes

These outrigger canoes are between Chamorro Village and Agana Marina. I was interested in their bright colors and sleek lines. They were so colorful propped neatly under the palm trees.

Carabao at Aniti Point

Carabao are commonly seen around Guam. They are a domesticated water buffalo. They are a farm animal used for pulling plows or carts and also haul produce. They can also be found in the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Southeast Asia. I spotted this one just north of the village of Umatac.

Under the Sea

I just love these sea turtles. I don't see them every time I go scuba diving so it is special when I do. This one was spotted in the Philippine Sea off the coast of Guam.
