Ctenosaur

"Ctenosaur"
watercolor 12x16

Ctenosaur?  What is that?  That's what I said.  Looking through some 2008 vacation photos to Costa Rica, I decided to paint this guy.  I thought it was an iguana.  But after looking into it, I discovered it is called a ctenosaur (tina-sore).  They can run 35km/h but luckily this guy didn't chase me when I got in for a close up photo.  And they are herbivores for the most part, so I didn't have much to worry about.  They can grow to 1 meter in length but this guy wasn't nearly that long.

Here is another photo of the one who liked to join us for breakfast at the open air restaurant.  I have to assume he is absorbing heat from the sun and warm concrete.

I saw this charming duo while visiting the Baton Rouge Zoo.  I used a trio of blue, yellow and burnt sienna (no gray) for my palette.

I snapped a few photos of this tiger while at the Baton Rouge Zoo.  I used these photo references to paint this guy.  He is such a majestic creature.

Pink Petals no.2

I moved into a new house this year.  I discovered I have these lovely tea roses growing in the front yard.  I see dew on them in the mornings and see warm sunlight on them in the afternoons.  I find myself studying them as I see new blooms unfold each day.  This is the second one of this series.
